Forum Page Removed

Well the experiment to have a forum page on this blog didn't go so well so it has been removed.

There just wasn't enough traffic or folks interested to keep it alive.

Oh well, back to fly tying!

Blue Halo Gear Revisited

After receiving my new reel from Blue Halo, I really like this reel. The fit and finish is supreme. No wobble or play in the spool, the machining is quite good, lightening holes are all deburred and really light weight.

However, I was disappointed with Blue Halo for not supplying any instructions on how to convert from a right hand retrieve to a left hand retrieve. I tried the Blue Halo web site for instructions and could not find any at all. I then ventured onto EBay and checked out the fly reels on the site. I came across one reel that looked exactly the same as my new Blue Halo reel and the EBay reel had instructions on how to convert the reel.

The following is a pictorial on how to convert the Blue Halo reel and all others that are of similar construction. It is quite easy to do.

Step 1

With the reel handle facing you, unscrew the spool form the reel

Step 2

Turn the spool over and you will see a knurled nut in the center of the spool

Step 3

Unscrew the knurled nut and a bearing will be exposed in the cavity at the center of the reel.

Step 4

Tap out the bearing ant turn it around. Re-install the bearing, screw on the knurled nut and reassemble the spool on the reel and tighten the spool nut. You have just converted your reel to a left hand retrieve.

After all is said and done, all is good with my new reel.

As always, thanks for looking.
