Thread - Black 6/0
Tail - Brown hackle fibers
Egg Sack - Peacock herl
Body - Red chenille*
Wing - Woodchuck
Hackle - Brown

May be tied with a yellow egg sac or yellow body.

Fishing Tips. It was designed to be fished dry (requires a lot of floatant (if using chenille body), but may be fished wet.

Historical Note: Created by the Martuch brothers, Harold, Leon and George who were avid fly fisherman from back in the 1930’s and 1940’s. They often fished the East Branch of the Au Grey river. They used to fish the property of a farmer, whom they respectfully referred to as the ‘hillbilly.’ Leon Martuch is probably the most famous of the three, having founded Scientific Anglers of Midland, Michigan.

Nymbeet

Nymbeet
(Stuart Napier)

Hook - Mustad 3906/3906B
Thread - Black.
Tail - Small bunch of black cock hackle equaling the hook length.
Back - A strip of black crow wing or substitute, doubled over lengthways and reaching almost halfway down the sides of the fly, tied in by the tip end.
Body - The original dressing has an underbody of black marabou silk, wrapped with a strip of clear plastic from a particular washing up pot cleaner. Clear Vinyl Rib or Nymph Rib can be substituted. They are three times thicker, so the underbody can be eliminated.
Hackle - Two turns of black cock, the fibers the same length as shank (leave full, not gathered underneath into a throat style).

Woodchuck Special

Woodchuck Special

Hook - Mustad 9671 or 9672
Thread - Yellow
Tail - Orange hen hackle fibers
Body - Silver tinsel
Rib - Copper wire
Wing - Woodchuck fur (use both guard hair and under fur)
Collar - Orange hen hackle

For a weighted streamer, wrap .015 lead wire over the front half of the shank, leaving about two hook-eye widths for the head.

Other variations: Orange is a great attractor color, but red or yellow are also good choices for tail and collar color. Further variations can be made with dyed woodchuck fur, such as red, yellow or olive, or by using colored wire for the rib.
