Von Patten
Hook - Wet fly
Thread - Black
Tail - Red goose or duck quill
Body - Yellow floss
Hackle - Brown
Wing - Barred mandarin
Trout - Ray Bergman
A favorite fly of mine, from the Adirondacks. I believe there were two variations - the “Van Patten” and the “Old Van Patten”. I believe the body for the Old Van Patten was pigs wool.
there ia a "van patten" pattern in a book by e c gregg but not "von patten"
Yes. I suspect the naming in Trout is a misspelling. Everyplace else I’ve seen it, it’s Van Patten.
okay then where is everyplace else?
