Ombudsman

Ombudsman

Hook - Down-eyed 8-10 long shank

Thread - Brown

Body - Peacock herl

Rib - Copper wire

Wing - Mottled brown hen or Turkey

Hackle - A long soft, brown hackle

Head - Brown. The head of the fly is tied in an elongated fashion.

This fly was created by Brian Clarke and given in his excellent book, The Pursuit of Stillwater Trout. It imitates a number of large aquatic nymphs, including the Alder larva. I have heard this fly described as the nymph fisherman’s lure, especially when tied as a hair wing.
