Black Bear Red Butt SBS


Tie in thread and silver oval tinsel behind the hook return.


Wrap back to the barb of the hook.


Wrap the tinsel forward. About 4-6 turns is enough.


Tie in the tag material.


Wrap tag material forward.


Tie in black hackle fibers for the tail and wrap all materials back to the hook return to make a smooth underbody.


Tie in the ribbing tinsel and the body material.


Wrap boody material forwrd followed by the tinsel ribbing. Tie in black hackle fibers for the throat.


Tie on the wing material and wrap a neat head.


Finished fly with tail.


Finished fly without tail.

Hook: Salmon type
Thread: Black
Tip: Silver oval tinsel
Tag: Red floss/uni-stretch/yarn etc
Tail: Black hackle fibers
Ribbing: Silver oval tinsel
Body: Black floss/uni-stretch/yarn etc
Throat: Black hackle fibers
Wing: Black bear or squirrel

Numerous websites/books have this fly tied with/without a tail so I tied both

Changing the tag color will give you a black bear green butt, black bear orange butt etc
